Experience the Rockies of Southern Colorado
Thursday, August 26th, 2010Family Dude Ranch Vacations Empower Children
Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010Out here at 4UR Colorado Family Dude Ranch, we are all pretty excited. As anyone who has been here knows, Cole Christensen is the oldest son of ranch managers Aaron and Robin Christensen. Cole recently participated in the National Finals Little Britches Rodeo in Pueblo, where he won second in the world. We are all very proud of him!
Cole’s victory has caused us to reflect on the Kid’s Program at our Family Dude Ranch. (more…)

Spontaneous Colorado Dude Ranch Vacation
Tuesday, July 13th, 2010Doesn’t it sound romantic? You call your sweetie and say, “Drop everything. I’m whisking you away for a romantic and exciting Colorado Dude Ranch vacation. We leave in 3 days.” Won’t he/she adore you even more for that?
Or imagine this: at dinner tonight you surprise your spouse and children by announcing you’re all going on a family dude ranch adventure the last week of July. They cheer, they applaud, they jump up from the table and dance a jig. Family bliss. You have just enough time to prepare.
Our luxury fly fishing resort has some last minute openings the weeks of July 17 – 24 and 24 – 31. This is a wonderful opportunity for friends, couples or families to immerse themselves in nature: partake in hikes and horseback rides in the southern Rocky Mountains of Colorado; treat yourselves to an angling adventure like none other, on seven private miles of Goose Creek; splash and play in our pool. Updates from Kids Week at 4UR Ranch
Monday, June 14th, 2010We are thrilled with how well our “Kids Stay Free” promotion has turned out. We had 15 kids and 25 adults enjoying horseback riding vacations to start out our season. Of course everyone had a blast and are already hoping to book for next season (have I mentioned that our guest ranch has a return guest rate of over 80%? I get the sense that people really like spending a week or more hereĀ during their summer).
There has been a lot of wildlife to observe in the valley this June. Many guests have seen elk, deer and bear. One group of riders even ran into a mother and baby moose. It was exciting for the riders, but I don’t think she was terribly pleased – she thought we were on her turf!
Unlike last summer – when it was wet and green long into June, we are looking for rain this year – it helps to keep the wildflowers blooming longer, and the pastures more plentiful for our horses. However, the weatherman says 50% chance for the next couple days, so that would be great!
The fishing as been going swimmingly thus far (haha) – all of of our stillwater fishing holes are producing great catches. We had multiple trips to the Lost Lakes this week, with staggering results. One group took in more than 65 fish in during their trip. Whoo hoo!
We’ll keep you updated on all the fun that happens during the family ranch vacations here over the next couple months.
4UR Ranch is a great place for Families
Monday, May 10th, 2010We know you are busy – believe me, we know! And sometimes, that one week that you get during the summer when the kids are off can be one of the best opportunities for quality time together.
The staff here at 4UR Ranch knows all about the value of family. If you keep up with us on Facebook, than you get a chance to hear about the recent adventures and accomplishments of Cole & Ky, our General Manager’s children. And don’t be surprised if you see Pete & Lindsey Leavell’s grandchildren running around during your horseback riding vacation. You will also probably meet Andy Lee’s family, our head guide. All our staff love to have their families with them in this majestic little valley as much as you will.

Bring your Family to Beautiful Southern Colorado
Remember that if you have some flexibility in your schedule for this summer, we still have availability for our kids stay free weeks June 5 thru 12 and Aug. 21 thru 28. Call 719-658-2202 for more information or to reserve your family’s Rocky Mountain Vacation at 4UR Ranch.
Kids Stay Free during your Fly Fishing Vacation
Wednesday, February 17th, 20104UR Ranch has always been family-oriented, and we are trying to encourage more family time during Kids Stay Free weeks during June 5 -12 and Aug. 14-21.

Enjoy a discounted stay with your kids at 4UR Ranch
Can you believe that it is more than half way through February? Spring is going to arrive at the guest ranch before we know it. It is still plenty snowy and cold up here, but we are hoping the worst of it is behind us now.
As we start to think about spring and guest arrival, we think you should be also. Have you made plans with your family for some time away, together? Take advantage of an amazing deal for a horseback riding vacation with your kids – for free! Our head wrangler Damon takes good care of all our riders old and young. He selects other qualified wranglers to help him work with the kids riding program. We have all different types of horses at 4UR for our different levels of riders. Our kids get real loving rides – horses that can help with the learning process of becoming a horseman or woman.
We try to provide a balanced amount of time between the kids program and family time. You, the parent, will have large chunks of the afternoon and morning to do what you want on your rocky mountain vacation – whether it be fly fishing, laying by the pool, visiting our hot springs or just taking in the stunning beauty of Wagon Wheel Gap.
Make sure to give us a call (719-658-2202) to check availability during our kids stay free weeks. This is a unique chance to make plans with your family at a highly discounted rate.
Kids Stay Free Dude Ranch Vacations
Thursday, January 7th, 2010Do you have a blossoming equestrian at home?
I was in love with horses as a young girl (a continuing love affair!), and not much would have made me happier than hearing my parents say, “We’re all going to a guest ranch this summer for a week!” Let us help you make dreams come true and create great memories during 4UR Ranch’s Kids Stay Free weeks. This is new special from us. During the weeks of June 5-12 and Aug. 14-21 bring your kids to 4UR for all the fun at no additional cost to you.
A stay at 4UR is more than a horseback riding vacation, we have anĀ outstanding kids program where your tots will be hiking, playing and swimming. We even have a big sleepover night in the lodge! At the end of the week, the kids have a rodeo to show off all their new cowboy and cowgirl skills. It’s a great time for all.
Parents will also have plenty to entertain them during the vacation in the Rocky Mountains. We have delicious meals and fine dining every day, a tasteful selection of wines and spirits, and of course the hot springs are here. Ride, shoot trap and most important relax. Enjoy time with the ones you love the most, and do it at a great lowered price.
Make sure to call us for all the details on our kids stay free weeks at 719-658-2202.
A Family Dude Ranch with Gourmet Food
Thursday, October 8th, 2009We were so lucky when we found Wray Warner. He is the head chef over at the 4UR, and makes mealtime a real event at our Colorado Dude Ranch. He came to us from the Four Seasons in Jackson Hole. One thing we love about Wray is that he doesn’t shirk from a challenge. He seems equally as comfortable creating well-presented gourmet meals in our dining room as he does while he grills 30 steaks and just as many hot dogs in the middle of the valley for steak ride. That’s what we were looking for: a chef that was versatile and up to the challenge of making dining a memorable part of our guests’ Rocky Mountain Vacation.
Folks are always impressed with his creative ice creams, made here at the ranch. Some of my favorites include mojito, margarita and cinnamon.

Wary Warner, Exeutive Chef of the 4UR
Delicious soups and meat entrees are offered daily. Tempting menu items include fresh salads, herb crusted halibut, wild mushroom pastas and butternut squash ravioli.
Wray also has a name that matches our ranch’s name, 4UR. The name comes from the little valley where Goose Creek meets the Rio Grande. It is called Wagon Wheel Gap. If you look at the first two letters, the W’s on Wagon and Wheel, you can see they made 4 U’s. Hence “4UR Ranch”. Well, it just happens that Wray Warner also has “4 U’s” in his name! We knew he must be a perfect fit, and he is! His meals never fail to fortify our guests for a full day on their Horseback Riding Vacations.
Family Ranch Vacations in Colorado
Wednesday, August 19th, 2009Fall has arrived at the 4UR Guest Ranch, and the morning temps are hovering around the freezing point already. That’s what happens when you sit at over 8,000 feet elevation! It gives you some smokin’ hot and sunny days and cool nights and early mornings. Great for the tan, we always tell our young lady guests – just don’t get burned!
We aren’t seeing any changing leaves or fall colors yet – but that is just one reason to take your fly fishing vacation later on in our season. The fish are still biting, with some nice plump big boys being caught! Our varied waters hold an abounding array of trout: rainbows, browns, snake river cutts, cutt-bow hybrids and even brookies.
We are starting some renovations and construction on our Cabin at Lost Lake, one of our more secluded lodging options here at the dude ranch. Couples seem to really enjoy that cabin during their rocky mountain vacation.

The Wildflowers have been hanging in - it was a nice wet summer
We continue to have some exciting wildlife sightings. One of our fisherman saw four bull elk swimming across the lower lake. He was really excited about it, I think it must have been quite a sight! We have also continued to see our friendly black bear, and some guests have seen moose. It was been a wonderfully full and busy summer. Lots of families enjoying horseback riding and the kids especially have been doing a great job in their horsemanship and riding classes. Lots of kids have been in fly fishing school as well this summer.
The first of our staff is heading back to the “real world”: medical school, nursing programs and accounting studies. We will miss them, we had such a great group this year!
Next month we are looking forward to hosting an undersheriff convention, it should be a great time!
